Durga And Baldre. The showdown….

May 3rd, 2009 Posted in Damage, DB-01, Durga, Keilor, Off-Road, On-Road

For the first time since November last year, Dan and I finally got to take our cars out together. For one reason or another, 1 car has always been broken or not working quite right for the last 6 months, so there was some excitement in finally getting the cars out together.

We built a new rear diff for Dan’s car in the morning, so it would be running the metal diff like mine. When Dan took his car apart, his pulley was also starting to melt, with oblong holes for the diff balls. With everything tighened up and the sun shining we headed out.

We decided to go to Keilor, to have a go at the offroad track. Unpack our stuff, plug in the batteries and start to move forward. Driving the durga around, it was running and handling the best it had since the mamba max went in. I did a couple of laps, while Dan also starting doing laps. After less then 2 laps, Dan said his front wheel looked weird.

We went down and couldn’t believe our eyes. After just 2 laps, the Baldre had given up the ghost. Shattering. It had managed to shear a bolt that held on one of the front arms. Even though we almost had another car in spares, we were without a replacement for this issue. 6 months of waiting and it was over, well over for 2 cars driving now anyway.

I kept driving for a while, the durga felt really nice. Though it was not without incident for me either. The top cap on the front damper broke, and my rear wing detached on one side. We ended up been able to keep my car running with spares off Dans car.

While we were there, we popped across the car park to the on-road track. We took the mini and the drift car (tt-01) for a spin. While over there, a couple of guys turned up with 1/8th Nitro Hyper 7′s. They had them spec’d out for on-road action. While chatting the guy told us that he had been clocked at 130kph down the main straight of the track, which impressed us. After some more chatting, we decided to give the durga a go on this track. So we popped some new boots on the durga and back onto the track it went.

As the durga flew down the straight, the look on the nitro owners face was fantastic. They was clearly impressed by the durga. The durga flew down the straight again, the rubber tires gripped as the car wrestled itself around the corners and then off down the next straight. The car handled like a dream and impressed many onlookers. When the Hyper7 came out onto the track, it was pleasing to see the durga hold its own. The faster acceleration, and the smaller car been more nimble meant the faster nitro was not able to catch up. The 1/10th onroad nitro’s also at the track would have been another story, but we didn’t get to run together.

So now the plan is to get Dan’s car fixed quickly so we can get another run in before its too late. Hopefully the next outing will have a couple more friends as well.

Dan took some great shots, some are below.
